Steel pipe and tube move liquid, gas, or steam from one point to another, or, in a structural role, act as a column, post, or bracing member where a round hollow section carries load more efficiently than a solid bar. How the pipe is made matters as much as the grade: seamless pipe is pierced and extruded from a solid round billet with no weld seam, while welded pipe (commonly ERW, electric resistance welding) is rolled from flat plate or coil and welded along a longitudinal seam.

NLS sources three grade families. ASTM A53 covers general-purpose carbon steel pipe, seamless or welded, the common reference for utility water lines, structural pipe columns, and general piping not carrying process fluid under demanding conditions. API 5L covers line pipe built for oil and gas transport, welded or seamless, in grades from B up through higher X-grades, specified where a project moves hydrocarbon product or falls under an operator's pipeline standard. ASTM A106 covers seamless carbon steel pipe for high-temperature service, boiler feed, steam, and process piping where the seam-free wall is needed for the pressure and temperature the line runs at.

On Saudi projects, steel pipe covers structural columns and posts on canopies and light structures, handrail and guardrail posts, utility and firewater distribution lines, and process or steam piping on industrial sites. Schedule (wall thickness) and grade both need to match the pressure rating and service, so a nominal pipe size alone isn't enough to quote accurately.
