Anchor Bolts

Anchor bolts fix a steel base plate, equipment skid, or foundation-mounted item to concrete, transferring uplift, shear, and overturning load from the steel into the foundation. An anchor bolt is the connection between a steel structure and its concrete foundation, embedded in the concrete on one end and threaded to take a nut and base plate on the other. Everything the column or equipment above transfers down, dead load, wind uplift, seismic shear, overturning moment on a tall or cantilevered structure, passes through that bolt into the concrete, which makes anchor bolt grade and embedment depth a foundation design item, not a hardware afterthought.

NLS sources anchor bolts to ASTM F1554, the standard structural anchor bolt specification, in three grades: Grade 36 (the most common, lower-strength grade for standard column base plates), Grade 55, and Grade 105 (higher-strength, used where a heavier structure or higher uplift load needs more capacity per bolt).
